I remember hearing a story about a navy deckhand who once got swept into an intake, but was saved by his feather-filled jacket clogging the engine. Though I think if you pulled out all the parts from the engine and all the pipes and smoothed it out, it would make a fun slide!

been down there a few times to look at damage to the inlet skins. Kind of fun and creepy.

Beautiful bird, although I've always been a bit more partial to the DC-10. Something about that S-duct has never looked quite right to me.

Always loved the L1011 - much prettier than the DC-10 imho. The way the intake on the vert stab is faired in vs the DC's stuck-on look made all the difference. Of course the RB211 pretty much killed any chance of that jet being successful. Gotta wonder if it would have done better against the DC-10/747 if it had GE's CF6-50 engine.

Always had a soft spot for that airplane, I'm not even sure why exactly. There was just something cool about it.
